VINCIT OMNIA VERITAS

HHHHHHNNNNNNG okay. I need to vent. This will be angry and biased because i’m mad.

I am so freaking sick of people pissing all over FMA 2003. Like, ugh. I don’t personally care for Brotherhood on it’s own, but the fans make me hate it. They way they jump all over the uninitiated and say:

"OH EW DON’T WATCH THE FIRST SSERIES IT’S BAD BROTHERHOOD IS BEtTEr BECAUSe MANGA"

No, I’m sorry that’s not a valid indicator of quality. You need a better goddamn reason than that. The original deviated from the manga because it had no choice. And considering that they were making it up as they went? They did a damn fine job telling a good story, and the people at Bones deserve more recognition for that.

It feels like nobody is watching FMA 2003 anymore. But people are still watching Neon Genesis Evangelion, even with the Rebuild movies. BECAUSE THE FIRST EVANGELIION HAS MEriT AND SO DOES THE FIRST FMA.

It’s gotten to the point where PEOPLE WHO HAVEN’T EVEN WATCHED THE FIRST SErIES ARE SAYING BROTHERHOOD IS BETTEr LIKE whAT

HOW DO YOU EVEN FEEL CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO MAKE tHAT STATEMENT

YOU HAVEn”T WATCHED IT AND YOU APPARENTLY DON’T INTEND TO SO HOW DO YOU KNOW????

I mean jesus christ.

FMA 2003 doesn’t deserve this man. It’s practically faded into obscurity, when it’s largely the reason Western Anime Fandom as it is today EXISTS AT ALL

The Brotherhood fandom has a serious elitist problem and it pisses me off.

((but seriously people who say FMA;B is better without watching the first series first need to be tied down and made to watch it so they AT LEAST can say they have a personal preference instead of just regurgitating with the brotherhood fans say GOOD GOD))

by “angry and biased,” did you mean “accurate" because yes

But I mean, seriously, you’re totally correct. I rewatched the original anime, then Brotherhood, and am finishing up rereading the manga, and you know, while I do all this, I like to lurk the internets for discussions and stuff. And all I keep seeing is this consistent attitude of haughtiness in people who’ve seen Brotherhood. It’s not even necessarily “canon elitists” who’ve read the manga, it’s people who were first introduced to this series via Brotherhood. A kid might ask, “hey I’ve heard FMA is awesome, but there’s a few different stories here, should I get into it, and if so, how?” and the immediate response from the next twenty repliers is, “watch Brotherhood!!!!” … I genuinely saw someone state that the original anime was a piece of shit because it “didn’t even follow the correct story,” when in actuality Arakawa specifically requested they pursue a different ending because this anime was produced in 2003, and she didn’t finish telling her original story until 2010.

Haven’t heard of anyone who hasn’t watched the original say that Brotherhood is better though. And that’s, honestly, unfathomable. Excuse??????????????????????? Like I can understand seeing both and making a judgement call, but that’s obnoxious. Simply because the manga is now complete, people who prefer it have the opportunity to specifically nit-pick at the original anime because it diverted from the same story. Meanwhile, I find it an intensely more emotional journey, with its own take on these fantastic characters. If you aren’t even willing to sit down and give it a chance, can you honestly say that these boys mean so much to you? Like I’m so 1000% with you i can’t even put into words ok

jsust ughhasgjkas lots of feelings and also accidental impromptu plot analysis under the cut
